In an effort to strengthen diplomatic ties and explore new avenues of cooperation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India has embarked on an official visit to France and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The visits, which are of significant importance, aim to bolster strategic partnerships and foster dialogue on various global issues.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to France comes as a special invitation from his friend, President Emmanuel Macron, to partake in the French National Day celebrations on July 14th, commonly known as Bastille Day. The Indian tri-services contingent will participate in the Bastille Day Parade, showcasing the deepening defense cooperation between the two nations. Furthermore, the Indian Air Force will perform a fly-past, underscoring the shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the strategic partnership between India and France, encompassing a wide range of sectors such as defense, space, civil nuclear, trade, investment, education, culture, and people-to-people ties. Prime Minister Modi eagerly anticipates engaging in extensive discussions with President Macron to propel this longstanding partnership forward into the next 25 years. The prime minister has previously met President Macron on multiple occasions, including the G-7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan, in May 2023.
During his stay in France, Prime Minister Modi will also have the opportunity to interact with other French leaders, including Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne, Senate President Gerard Larcher, and National Assembly President Yael Braun-Pivet. These meetings will further facilitate discussions on strengthening bilateral relations and exploring new avenues of collaboration.

Following his visit to France, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Abu Dhabi, UAE, on July 15th, where he will meet with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi. The two countries enjoy robust cooperation in numerous sectors, including trade, investments, energy, food security, science and technology, education, fintech, defense, security, and people-to-people ties. Building on the success of the Roadmap agreed upon by President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and Prime Minister Modi last year, discussions will focus on further deepening ties and exploring opportunities for mutual growth.
Of particular importance is the upcoming 28th Conference of Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-28), set to be hosted by the UAE. Prime Minister Modi and President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed will exchange views on strengthening global cooperation to accelerate climate action and ensure the successful implementation of the Paris Agreement. The visit to the UAE is expected to mark the beginning of a new chapter in the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UAE.
